Wordy Wednesday: Kid Friendly Classics

August 15, 2012

Every Wednesday I will post a great book for you and your child to read together. There will often be a simple craft or activity to go with it to further promote reading comprehension, vocabulary, and communication.

One evening a few months ago, B opened the front door to find a box sitting outside. It wasn’t any holiday in particular so we were curious as to what it could be. Lilly ripped off the tape and started pulling out some unfamiliar looking books. Among them was this one:

My book loving cousin, who unfortunately lives out of state in New York, had put together a box of their favorites to send to the girls.  My favorite of the bunch, this beautifully illustrated storybook is loosely based on the relationship between classic author Virginia Woolf and her sister, Vanessa Bell. As you can tell from the cover, the illustrations are magical and tell such a lovely story so well suited for my little sister girls to grow up loving. I’m sure this would be a cherished gift for sisters of any age.

And now for these… oh be still my beating heart! How cute are these board books? “Little Miss” or “Little Master” versions of classic literature. Pride and Prejudice for Lilly? I died. Author Jennifer Adams created the series with tots in mind and Allison Oliver added her illustrative expertise to make the stories come alive. I can’t wait to get my hands on them to add to Lilly’s library. Hopefully both women keep publishing more!

Got a great kids book suggestion for my Wordy Wednesday posts? A family favorite that your child would like to make a craft about? Leave me a comment! We are always on the hunt for new books to read!

I think Virginia Wolf is the most amazing book for sisters! It makes me tear up thinking about the amazing relationship my little girls could have someday. How about a craft with Goodnight Moon or another book that almost everyone owns?

Great idea Kelly- that would make it super easy for everyone to do the craft then huh?! Duh! Thank you.
