When my friend Kristin asked if I’d be interested in being a test subject for an underwater maternity photography session, my thought process kind of went like this (knowing full-well how awesome Kristin’s photography is):
Hell no.
Ok, maybe.
Yes. I am beautiful, confident, strong– I can do this.
****Oh crap. Maybe I can’t.**** I feel huge, soft, jiggly.
I’m scared. I’m embarrassed.
I definitely can’t.ย
Maybe I can.
I’m going to try.
Try I did, and well… I cannot express my gratitude to Kristin enough for these photos. They are unique, beautiful, expressive and something I will treasure forever. ย At first I thought it would be super weird to put my big naked belly on display like this- and even during and after the session I was unsure of weather or not I would share the pictures. Underwater maternity photos – of me! – who would’ve thought?! But Lilly said, “You look beautiful, Mommy.” And that’s simply good enough for me. Below are a few of my favorites. Our baby girl is just about 28 weeks old. Seven months. ย That’s a pretty big miracle, huh?!
P.S. Do you know how hard it is for a big pregnant lady to sink?! And how hard it is not to laugh underwater and get water up your nose? Let me tell you… it’s near impossible. ๐ Oy. And the few pictures captured with the girls? Teeny tiny, special and secret moments I will cherish for the rest of my life. I see and snap up memories of their faces every single day of their lives. But these? It’s a whole new perspective.
How blessed am I to have such amazing friends?! We grew up our whole lives on the same street- crazy where life takes you ๐
Thank you, thank you, Kristin. I’m sure these will be a blessing to look back on in the future. I can’t wait to see where your passion for photography takes you- here’s hoping it keeps you underwater!
**Philly area people – if you want to get in touch with Kristin about booking a session like this in the future, please let me know and I’ll pass along her contact information.**

These are so amazing! I don’t know what is more amazing, the photography skills of shooting underwater (because that seems crazy to me!) or how beautiful you look in these photos! What a crazy, unique, and gorgeous spin to maternity photos. These are awesome and totally worth getting into that cute swimsuit for! So cool! I love them!

these photos are absolutely gorgeous! I’ve never seen anything like this. I refused to have my picture taken when I was pregnant with my boys and I regret it all the time. this is amazing. beautiful.

I was the same way with my girls. A bit less so with my second but still was definitely camera shy. I WISH I had been able to accept my body more and embrace pregnancy but I’m trying to be better this time around. It’s hard ๐
