The “Busy Mom” Makeup Routine

November 5, 2013

Ok, Mommas. This post is especially for you. I took about nine thousand million selfies on my phone and camera to get a usable before and after picture for the end of this post so I HOPE YOU LOVE IT (or I hope it at least makes you laugh). Let’s just say I’m not cut out to be a self portrait style beauty blogger, k? K.

Anyway…

Presenting the Busy Mom Makeup Routine. But maybe I should have just called it the “Mom” Makeup Routine because what kind of Mom isn’t busy?!  I hear you. I’m busy too. Crazy busy. And tired. Crazy tired. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to look  feel great every day- even if I’m only running around doing crazy, mundane, “Mom” things. Ten minutes in the morning helps me feel refreshed, put together (it’s a fabulous illusion), and presentable as I do whatever I need to do for the day. PLUS I always feel ready to jump into a pic with my girls which is my favorite 😉 (hello fellow instagram obsessed!).

So without further ado, here are my all time fav’s:

Busy Mom Makeup Routine Graphic

1. MAC Studio Moisture Tiny SPF 15 in Medium ($31)

+

2. Olay Complete Daily Moisture SPF 15 ($8.99)

Love these (together) because: You only need a pea size dollop of the MAC tinted moisturizer *mixed* with a generous nickel size dollop of the Olay moisturizer.  When mixed together in your hands and applied over your whole face, you get an even, totally natural, breathable cover to set the stage for the rest of your makeup. No cakey powder, no swirling of dusty minerals, no millions of layers, no goopey foundation… just a light layer of healthful moisture that dries to feel completely invisible in just a few short minutes and a lovely glow to boot.

3.Tarte Cheek Stain in True Love: Sheer Watermelon ($30)

Love it because:  It’s super, super, super natural. If you are going for honest flush- this is your new best friend. I always go a little pinker and a little darker with this blush when I’m getting ready in the morning. It has to last through kisses, breakfast, clothing changes, baby hugs, coats on and off…all of that good stuff. Little disclaimer though: I’d love to have two so I could toss one in my purse to reapply. It DOES wear off later in the day. But then again… what makeup doesn’t?!

4. Baby Lips Lip Balm in Pink Punch ($2.99)

Love it because:  It’s a really fun trendy color that actually feels great on your lips!  I absolutely hate lip gloss/balm/stick that leaves any kind of “after burn” weather it’s an oily feeling, strange taste, dried out crinkle, or anything other than relief and hydration.

5. Urban Decay Cosmetics Shattered Face Case ($44.00)

Love it because: This palette is my “little black dress” of makeup. I love the carefully selected colors as they are universally flattering and look good on me all year round. The 24/7 eye liner is my fav but having the eyeshadow colors on hand for a more glammed up look is so convenient.  The blush, bronzer and gloss are great for touch ups. This is something else I’d love a duplicate of as I actually DO toss it in my purse all the time and often find myself running around looking for it. Sometimes it’s the ONLY makeup I take when driving across state to visit my family! Super simple.

6. Sephora Collection Bronzer in 3 Los Cabos: Matte Universal Tan ($17)

Love it because: It’s matte! Say it with me. IT. IS. MATTE. Glitter in your bronzer is a huge no no for me. I hate it. It makes your face look super shiny and oily which is never good and can make you look covered in fake makeup. I don’t care what color you are or what color your bronzer is but glitter and shimmer is never natural ALL over your face.  This color saved my life during and after both of my pregnancies when my anemia was really flaring and I looked like the walking dead. The color is great on my super tan skin in the summer and still natural on my pale skin in the winter. All around, an awesome product. Plus the compact is ENORMOUS and will last you forever.

7. MAC 182 Buffer Brush ($53)

Love it because: It is the **perfect** dense brush for applying the afore mentioned bronzer ^^^

8. Sonia Kashuk Brow Kit – Arch Alert 12 ($9.99)

Love it because: It helps me fill in my sparse brows for a cleaner eye look. I’m a weirdo about my eyebrows. And now you know I’m a weirdo about my eyebrows so I’ll probably be even weirder about them knowing you are probably noticing my eyebrows!

(oh heavens)

But honestly, I use the top left darker color and it is perfect. It fills in my brows beautifully and naturally and even matches my hair well enough that I’ve used it to fill in my temples where I literally went BALD after giving birth. (For real, it happened). I also use this same color as my go to eye liner for a more dramatic eye that is still natural looking and not too dark.

9. MAC Small Angle Brush ($20)

Love it because: It is the perfect tool for applying eyebrow color and eyeliner ^^^. The perfect thickness of line every. single. time.

10. Maybelline Great Lash BIG Washable Mascara in Blackest Black ($3.99)

Love it because: It goes on thick and creamy. No clumps. Super black. Easy to layer. And best of all- washes right off in the shower. I hate mascara that doesn’t come off with water. (Maybe because I don’t wash my face – except with water… but that’s a blog for another day 😉 )

11. Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara in Royal Blue ($3.99)

Love it because: It is my secret weapon! And now it can be your secret weapon too. Did you know BLUE undertones WHITEN and BRIGHTEN your teeth and eyes?! It’s true. Lipstick with blue undertones and eye makeup with blue undertones are awesome for dull smiles and tired eyes. For me, adding a single coat of blue mascara on top of the black makes my tired eyes pop. Your eyes will sparkle in the sun just enough to make someone look twice at you but not enough for an instagram selfie to reveal your secret. It’s AWESOME.

And now before I change my mind……….

before and after

Ta da! There I am. Ha. I’m not wearing the 24/7 eyeliner in the after picture (just the eyebrow color as eyeliner). 24/7 is reserved for nights out where my makeup routine gets REAL crazy. Kidding. (kind of…)

But seriously, hope this helps you if you are looking for new/different/tried and true makeup options that are simple enough for everyday mornings and everyday Mommas. Work it ladies!

Mwuah!
