After a solid year of planning and talking about getting married, my best friend finally tied the knot- she got MARRIED! I’m not sure why that’s still so weird, considering I’ve been married, myself, for over 4 years. Something about childhood friends taking that leap is so bittersweet. We aren’t kids anymore. We’ve been through an unimaginable amount of oh-so-important teenage drama, made it through college, found ourselves, and come out on the other side of the world where we are “grown ups” with real relationships and an infinitely wider perspective on life, friendship, and love.
I’m so happy and relieved that this cake is out of my brain and finally eaten by all of the wedding guests. The nerves I had for this cake…I don’t think I’ve ever been so nervous in my life. No more wedding cakes for best friends 😉 For now at least! The real magic of this cake is that the inside is funfetti! How fun is that?! It’s the brides absolute favorite. The buttercream was purposefully made to be streaky to match the fabric details on our bridesmaid dresses. To do that, I dotted the bowls of buttercream with little dabs of black gel food coloring (after the icing was tinted gray). Then when I iced the cake, I let those little dabs spread and streak however they needed to to create the final surface. I thought it gave the cake a little bit more dimension and interest.
All of the flowers were made to match some element of the brides bouquet. Dahlias, celosia, succulents etc. They were all created using gumpaste and gel food coloring and a whole lotta patience. Here are a few instagram shots of the flowers up close.
And puh-lease tell me you are dying over these bridesmaids bouquet’s! They were stunning and offset out gray dresses so beautifully. I’m a sucker for dahlias and pink.
In the theme of pink we all got pink shoes. The bride’s shoes were magenta. I wish I had thought to throw Lilly’s shoes in this picture too but- such is life.
Speaking of Lilly, there she is! The most adorable little flower girl on the planet. Bar none.
Having the luxury of spending all day with these ladies was so. perfect. It’s not often I get a whole day “to myself” with best friends in the mix. Of course we had things to do and to get ready but we really just drank champagne and ate pizza with the beautiful bride 😉
P.S. we are totally playing it cool but it was FREEEEEEEZING!
How cute is that little peanut all dressed up in her flower girl attire?! Gray sash and all. She single-petaled it all the way down the isle then did two huge dumps of petals at the end. One of my favorite parts was seeing her face when the bride and groom kissed. She was a little ball of JOY. Super, super cute.
The evening was so fantastic, in the company of my bests, surrounded by beautiful things, great music, and excellent food. So happy for my best and her fiancé, wishing you an amazing honeymoon and start to the rest of your lives together!
