If you’re new to my blog you might not know that all four of our girls share a room. Gasp! I know that’s totally not the norm these days with lovely giant houses and every new baby coming home to their own beautiful nursery. Heck, even my four brothers and I grew up in a 6 bedroom 6 bathroom house. I only now realize what a luxury it was to have that much space! But my family lives now in an 1880’s log cabin reno and even though it’s charming and lovely it’s also small. Two bedrooms have to work for us so we’ve slowly but surely figured out what we can live without.
One of those things is a changing table! We definitely don’t need one. I can count on one hand the amount of times we ever changed our kids on a true changing table (you know, the kind with the bolster pad on top?). It’s just a piece of furniture in our home that was completely useless. It’s far better for our family to have regular clothing dressers in the minimal space we have for them and leave the changing of little baby bums to other areas of the house.
Other areas most often means the couch, the floor, or whomevers bed happens to be close by.
Luckily for our upholstery (and our mattresses!) we’ve invested in a few changing pads to keep around the house to lay down before we change the baby. We also know now (it’s only taken FOUR newborns, yikes) that we can save tons of money using Parent’s Choice Diapers from Walmart instead of more expensive name brands because they work just as well and allow us to put more money toward the things we care more about (cute changing pads perhaps?!) and less on something that ends up in the garbage.
We also love Parents Choice diapers because Walmart has easy and free two day shipping right to our door! That means I don’t have to keep a big stock pile of diapers somewhere in our home (which is great because we only have *two* closets in the whole entire house) and take up valuable storage space. While we’re at it – Parent’s Choice diapers have never failed me with a blowout (knock on wood) and have never leaked. They’re soft and have wide tabs with tab-on-tab closure (which I legit love), and don’t become super bulky (bulky diapers are such a pet peeve of mine). They’re also lotion free and perfect for newborns.
Whenever we need to change this sweet girl we just grab a changing pad and a diaper from the closest little stack and take care of business right there. Sally is my little helper and regardless of her recent threenager attitude, is always happy to help me grab the changing things I need.
If only she could be that helpful all the time, ha!
Anyway, whether you are new or seasoned in the world of babies my two MUST HAVE diapering essentials are for sure Parents Choice affordable diapers and a thin/wipeable changing pad like this one. Everything else is negotiable, haha!
Hope you are having a wonderful week.
—also, if you love these Parent’s Choice diapers, you might want to check out the tried and true Parent’s Choice line of wipes and baby food pouches that are also staples around here. Can’t go wrong with great quality, low price, and fast and free shipping.
