Before we moved, life and all of its moving parts seemed like it was moving at warp speed. Brandon and I were never in the same place for long and the girls missed having us all together. Leisurely family dinners were replaced with driving back and forth from house to house. Our comfortable living space was turned upside down with boxes and packing and painting. I was so stressed out and I know it showed in the way I parented my three little beauties these last few months. I know they could feel it. And I hated that.
It’s almost April now. The log cabin reno still isn’t finished and boxes litter all of our rooms. But we are together every night and morning and already this beautiful fixer upper is home. It’s ours. I love being able to walk to pick Lilly up from school. I love that we have so much yard for the kids to run. I love that there’s a trampoline and a creek and a deck and some giant trees. I love that we are happy here. But mostly I love that the girls are happy here. You can see the stress lifted off of them and notice the way they can relax now like they hadn’t been able to in a long time. Our new normal is chickens and outside and books and tickles. Dinner at the table (gasp!) and dessert in jammies on the deck. It’s so simple and mundane but it’s perfection in so many ways.
Trouble personified.
Dirty bare feet and wild hair.
(Cutest dollies ever from Sweet Littles Handmade. Got them for the girls for Christmas- best purchase!)
Little sisters who think it’s thecoolestthingever when inside toys are allowed out!
Moods. So many moods.
And this one. Growing a mile a minute before my very eyes. My, how old she seems. Making new friends, chattering away about guestimation and birthday parties and Master Chef Junior. She’s a good egg.
Grace is a daily mystery. She has secrets in every smirk and keeps me constantly attentive- watching her hands sign and her little mouth form proper words. Beginning and end consonants are a point of contention and we spend lots of time discussing the particulars of all the syllables of all the words.
And while Lilly certainly adores the chickens, Grace is the one to help me daily, crouching down and crawling into the coop to retrieve the eggs, shuffling the hens to the right part of the yard, pouring in the feed and helping me carry their water.
Like I said… Moods for days!
I’ll happily keep these days forever even though I know we’ll soon trade peaceful spring days for the thick and monotonous heat of summer. There will no doubt be much to love about our first summer here.
But then there’s always much to love, isn’t there?
Happy Wednesday!
