I think it’s safe to say we’ve been living under a rock for the past 6 years… That or technology is vastly improved (ok, so it’s probably both).
But seriously the Vtech VM343… It is *everything*! The display shows a crisp and clear video feed with no lag or fuzziness or delay. I’ve been sitting with the monitor in my lap since we opened the box and I can’t stop watching the kids on it.
I’ve been able to actually relax now while Sally is falling asleep and have a genuine HOT cup of whatever I want WHENEVER I want without worrying about weather or not Sally is stirring or about to start crying. The VTech VM343 comes standard with up to 1,000 feet of range which means I can even go outside and take care of the chickens without worrying about the kids! This is huge, guys!
We didn’t use a monitor really of any kind with any of the three girls. We tried one long ago when Lilly was a newborn but quickly learned that in a small house, you could easily hear everything. No monitor required. I sleep so lightly that there is no possible way I could ever sleep through kid commotion.
What I’ve been missing out on all these years though, guys, is SEEING the moments I’ve been listening to behind closed doors. If you are new here or aren’t familiar with our family, you may or may not be surprised to know all three of our girls share a bedroom. While that isn’t the norm these days for many families it works really well for us. But what goes on behind closed doors with three little chatty girls all trying to go to sleep?!
I can finally SEE what’s going on. And let me tell you… It is amazing. Thanks to the VTech VM343 monitor’s remote pan and tilt camera featuring 2x zoom and the 270 degree side-to-side and 120 degree vertical tilt we can actually see the girls entire room! It’s a big room with two “nooks” so I think it’s pretty rad that this little camera can get to all of it.
Lots of extra kisses for Sally from both of the big girls. Lilly helping Grace smooth out her quilt. Changing the picture on the projectable night light. Shadow puppets made from tiny hands. I *melted* when I watched all of this for the first time. Lilly does a good deal of “shhh shhh shhhh” ing and Grace does her fair share of signing in the air. It’s all so sweet.
And then their little bodies fall still and I can see them get comfortable and drift off to sleep. I love knowing they are in their room comforting each other, falling asleep all together. The automatic night vision is really wonderful too- so clear and so much detail.
I also LOVE the temperature icon on the monitor. I always worry that my girls are freezing at night…now I know they are freezing. Ha! And I don’t feel so guilty about cranking the heat.
The best part about the VTech VM343 for the big girls is that they are more well behaved than ever 😉 Thanks to the “talk” feature, I’ve now got an omnipresent “Mom-voice” and can speak to the girls even when I’m not on the same floor as them. They think this is pretty rad.
We’ll probably be adding at least two more cameras to this unit. It can accomodate 4 (!!) which is so handy for larger families or families who just need a little bit of extra supervision in different rooms of the house.
So fun, right?!
Isn’t she just the cutest?! She stares at the camera like she knows I’m on the other end looking right back at her. Cracks me up.

I m keeping an eye on our older son in his room, or if I move the monitor to keep an eye on baby while I m doing household chores.
