Anyone else in a crazy getridofallthethings mindset these days? I don’t know if it’s the weather or the kids all getting older or the addition of chickens or what. But I am just feeling like sorting, organizing and eliminating any and every extra thing in (and out) of our house. I’ve found that this is doing two things: giving us all better room to be together and allowing us to be able to focus on the things we really love. The projects we love. The toys we love. The outfits we love. More is (almost) never better and it feels like my life’s mission right now is to pair everything down to “better” basics. We have a loooooooooong way to go, and I wouldn’t ever really describe our family as “minimalists” but I have realized it is and will continue to be hard work to keep our small house functional for our not exactly small family. How do tiny humans accumulate so much BIG stuff?!

Anyway, we made space for this amazing little TeePee this weekend that I’ve been promising the kids we’d take out once all the other things on our list were tackled and dealt with, once we had made space to place with this amazing gift properly. It was Lilly’s sweet idea to use it as a chicken tea party TeePee so that’s exactly what we did. Except we didn’t serve tea we served chicken food and clover. But it was still perfect and wonderful and peaceful wrapped up into one perfect bite of summer. Our baby chickens are growing fast but are remaining so wonderfully tame and docile with the kids. Each time I see my girls with our hens I really marvel at the actual bond that’s taken place between a chicken and these kids. If you’d asked me to imagine my life as a Mom before I ever had a family this little scene you see here in these photos wouldn’t have ever crossed into my imagination. Sometimes the best things in life are the little things that sneak in unexpectedly, surprising the heck out of you in the best way. How did I get so lucky?
Grace was very sternly repeating, “No no no no no Sally baby NO NO!”
Margot is my favorite chicken. She is SO soft and fluffy.
Amazing TeePee, right?! Francie and Co. you are so good!
The face she makes when the chickens walk away from her.
^^ Secrets out. My kids don’t always smile for family photos. ^^
But I love them, all the same.

Happy Monday, friends.
