Have you ever daydreamed about attending a conference? What are these elusive events for? Are they just for career women, being paid for and picked up by corporate America? Are they invite only? Are they only for bloggers? Writers? What’s the deal?!
I’m here to let you in on the details for a conference being held right here in Pittsburgh. The Mom Con is a conference designed for, well you guessed it, Moms! If you are in any way “working” while simultaneously doing your job as a mother and are on the fence about weather or not this type of conference is for you, I’m here to give you seven reasons why I think you need to attend. Having been to this particular conference before, I can vouch through personal experience for how meaningful it can be to do something like this, created just for you.

My munchkins and I. Gotta love those little faces.
- You need a break.
If you are reading this post, I’m assuming you are a Mom- hi ladies! And with that assumption comes another one; that you have little ones or grown ones requiring every once of your being for their care sometimes twenty four hours a day seven days a week. Maybe you sleep with them, shower with them, pee with them. It’s possible you talk all day long to them without ever coming up for air. It’s likely you devote more than 95% of your day to thinking about them and the mountain of things you need to do each and every day to make their lives wonderful. Or maybe your work takes your outside of the home. You are responsible for getting everyone up, dressed, fed and out the door in the morning (at an unGodly hour)- including yourself. And then you are responsible for picking up, feeding, bathing, jammie-ing, storytelling, tucking in, kissing, cuddling and sleeping with those same people at the end of your day. If any of THAT ^ sounds anything like what you do, then trust me, you need a break. This conference is designed to give you just that, with a full day (or more!) of conversation, information, and atmosphere specifically made to give you that much needed break, help you relax, and allow you to concentrate on your own self for a few minutes longer than you might typically get in during your normal routine.
- You need to meet new friends.
I have yet to meet a Mom that hasn’t welcomed new friendships. Imagine the village we can build if we start reaching further and trying harder to form these bonds with other women. Only recently have I begun to truly experience this (through blogging-yay!) and it’s changed my world in such a big way. The community of like-minded women I’ve met through this little website are incredible and have become those go-to friends that I text and call and hang out with. They’re always there for advice or to bounce ideas around with- or for hanging out together with our kids when someone needs to vent. People have so much to offer each other and it’s only in going out and making those connections can you truly understand how important it is to continue to grow your friend-circle. The Mom Con can provide so much more than a monthly play date or reliable coffee buddy- you might actually meet other mothers who can inspire you, push you, help you, and support you through your journey not just as a Mom, but as a woman in general.
- You need perspective.
I think Moms sometimes live in a bubble. We often go through challenges and experiences that make us feel alone. This happens (I think) because our villages are still small and we don’t truly see how many other women are walking the same paths as we are, how many other women are thinking the same, feeling the same, acting the same. Being with a large group of Moms, hearing what so many other mothers have to say- this can give you invaluable perspective on your own life. You are not alone, we are all in this together, and we’re probably thinking much of the same things!
- You need dream-validation.
Maybe you are a Mom with big big dreams. Or even little baby dreams. You won’t find yourself in a more inspiring community for dream-building than the one you’ll find at The Mom Con. You will hear from countless women who have followed their dreams, from idea to fruition, from nothing to everything, and hopefully feel validated about your own dreams. You can voice those dreams here, discuss them with people who have dreams of their own. Turn those dreams into goals in a place that feels safe and supportive.
- You need to network.
Whatever stage of career you are in- be that no real “career” at all with plenty of ideas to chew on (um, that’s me raising my hand), or an incredible empire born from your own imagination and turned into something amazing- you need to network. Simple as that. There is no one I can think of that wouldn’t benefit from networking. The more women you have in your village, the more opportunities you are adding for your future. That might mean meeting someone you could go into partnership with, finding out there is someone who has skills you really need to learn from, adding contacts to your phone of people who may be useful to know as your ideas and goals grow and change. The networking I was able to do at last years’ conference is still benefiting me to this day- giving me open lines of communication with people who have been valuable to me expanding my work and ideas, and helping me accomplish things I wouldn’t have been able to do without their help.
- You need to hear what this years speakers have to say.
Ah, the best part. The speakers! I’m so excited about this years speakers. You’ll learn about marketing-to-moms. What are you selling? How do you sell it? You’ll learn how to “figure out what makes you happy” from the happiness expert herself (yes, really!). You’ll hear from large-following local bloggers on their beginnings and successes, and you’ll learn about whole body wellness from a pediatric and pregnancy chiropractor. You will hear from an Emotional Intelligence Life Coach (I met her in person and I’m so intrigued to hear her talk), and an equally intriguing Women’s Business Coach – who honestly makes me nervous with her truth telling amazingness that produces real world results. I’ll have to hide when the organization expert and financial literacy coach speak… I’m a hot mess when it comes to organization and finances! Kidding, but really. Who doesn’t need to hear those two talk?! To read a bit more on all of these speakers and for links to their webpages if you just can’t wait ( 😉 ) head on over to The Mom Con Speakers page where you can find more information.
- You need a push.
You are waiting to open that etsy shop. You are finding the right time to start a website. You are still considering going back to your pre-mom job or applying for that dream job you’ve been reading about. You’re ready to launch some new idea. You have a great plan in place for pursing your dream career. You are already a Mompreneur that’s feeling stuck of lost or hopeless. This is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to erase the things that are holding you back, focus on the things you need to move forward, and get a final push to help you move on in the right direction. This is the opportunity you need to give you more tools to succeed.
The Mom Con is happening on Nov. 14th-15th at the Pittsburgh Marriott North which just so happens to be a hope skip and a jump away from ME! I’d love to meet you, connect with the Mom’s I interact with so much through this website, and hear your story. It’s been so fun over the past few months meeting blog friends and instagram friends in person and I sincerely hope will walk away from the conference feeling the same.
I really am truly hoping to meet you in person… but in the interest of full disclosure the conference happens to fall on my due date so it’s in the hands of God whether or not I’ll be there. Cross your fingers and say a prayer for a slightly early delivery 😉
Registration information and FAQ’s can be found via The Mom Con website.

I am a mom of 3 under the age of 4 and would love a break and to meet other Pittsburgh mom’s and be able to pass out a few of my photography cards if possible! I would love to get to know more on becoming a successful blogger and learn as much possible from other moms. I would love this opportunity! Hope to see you there either way!

I would love to attend Mom Con! As a new mom to my baby girl – it’s hard to find time to get together with other mom’s. This sounds like a great opportunity to not only network, but also make some new friends!

eeeps! I am pretty shy, and I can’t really imagine much worse than networking with strangers — EXCEPT!!– I think a conference full of moms would be awesome. I came late to motherhood, and I’d like to represent older moms to the younger generations and meet more grey haired mamas. I laugh when people think I’m the grandma (Yeah, dunkin donuts kid, you wanna give my ‘grandkids’ free donuts? Go right ahead! And shush it kids if you want donuts!) ha ha, pick me, pick me! Oh, and I only want one ticket, so there’s that. <3

I would love the opportunity to network with moms both local and from around the country. I would really enjoy learning how to expand my new small business all while balancing work and mommyhood (:
