The Easiest Apple Pastry Ever

September 30, 2017

Have you ever used puff pastry? If you haven’t, you should definitely start. And if you have, have you used the refrigerated kind? Game changer! NO THAWING! You just pull it out at the exact moment you want to use it and bam- it’s perfect. Found mine in our regular grocery store but not sure if it’s everywhere yet or not? I could be behind the 8 ball here… it’s always a possibility ha! But just look at these…

Are you drooling?! You should be. The flaky puff pastry comes out perfectly with literally almost zero effort.

There’s really not much to this apple pastry recipe. It takes about 5 minutes to whip up and bakes beautifully. Perfect for when you need an easy but impressive looking breakfast or dessert but don’t have time to spend slaving over something complicated. I’m envisioning this on Thanksgiving morning. Mmmm…

The Easiest Apple Pastry Ever
This easy apple pastry whips up so quickly you won't think twice about making it for breakfast or dessert! Refrigerated puff pastry dough is a game changer here and eliminates the extra time and forethought you need to properly thaw the dough. Use whatever apples you have in season or have recently picked! Fresh apples are so good here.

8" pastries
Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/8 cup cinnamon (more or less to taste)

  • 1 squeeze lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/8 cup cinnamon (more or less to taste)
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 squeeze lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-4 tbsp water
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400F (follow the directions on your puff pastry package! Baking time temps and time vary brand to brand).
  2. Lay your pastry dough on parchment paper.
  3. Arrange apples neatly down the center (you don't even need to peel the apples in this recipe!).
  4. Sprinkle evenly with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.
  5. Use a knife or sharp pastry wheel to make slits down each side of the puff pastry dough.
  6. Alternating left and right, bring each piece of puff pastry and up and over the apples, tucking the edges in underneath the filling as you go. You should start to see a nice braided pattern appear.
  7. Cut your pasty log into two equal pieces and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure the dough at the ends of each log are pinched together nicely to keep the apples and juices inside.
  8. Brush the tops of each pastry with the beaten egg to create a golden brown crust in the oven.
  9. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  10. Cool for 10 minutes.
  11. While pastries cool, mix together the powdered sugar and water, slowly, until you have a nice drizzling consistency.
  12. Drizzle icing generously over the pastries and top with sprinkles!
  13. Serve warm with fruit, berries, whipped cream or ice cream!
