Documenting Pregnancy : Baby Sally’s Pregnancy Progress

November 17, 2014

Now that Sally is officially 40 weeks (hooray!) I thought it would be the perfect time to share the final details of how I documented her pregnancy. All with the use of my iPhone and two apps I enjoyed using throughout, I was able to capture my ever growing bump in a way that felt flattering and fun vs. anxiety causing and depressing 😉 But the best part about how I documented this pregnancy was being able to involve my girls! Here’s what I did:

First, I downloaded “TheBump” app.

I would check this weekly with the girls (Lilly – 4.5 and Gracie 2.5) and we’d see which vegetable or fruit corresponded with baby girl’s length or weight.  Lilly really seemed to connect with this concept and was able to definitively grasp exactly how big her sister was as she grew inside my belly. It was fun to go to the store each week and find the fruit or veggie we needed for the picture and then it was equally fun to take the picture. I love looking back now at these photos- not only to see my own baby bump to see my girls’ faces peeking out above and around that bump, clearly so excited for their new sibling to arrive! I didn’t fuss too much about what each picture looked like perspective wise. They are each a little bit different but that’s what I love. No special photography skills or equipment required. I could do them all myself without relying on anyone else to take the picture for me and super bonus- I never even needed to do my hair or makeup! Easy, peasy.

After I took the bump pictures (holding the phone just underneath my chin), I added our weekly count to each one using the “OBaby” app. It’s definitely one of my favorites, not just for documenting pregnancy, but for adding art and text to almost any image that could fall under the “parenting, motherhood, childhood” umbrella. There are categories with so many different options and ideas and it will be fun to continue using the app as all of my babies grow.

I’m planning to add all of these images to a photo book but for now, seeing even some of them in a collage is so fun to look back on!
