We are fresh out of bedrooms at our casa right now… No nursery to decorate for baby number three. I’m not gonna lie… that kind of kills me. Ok so I’ll live but, honestly? Planning for baby is one of the most exciting things about being pregnant! It’s fun to chose details and special things. It’s fun to set up a space you know will be so loved and so full of memories. The planning gives you (well ME anyway…) something to focus on instead of the back pain or the cravings or the insomnia.
Since I can’t go full tilt on an adorable nursery this time around, I’m scheming my way into re-doing our master bedroom. Husband isn’t TOO thrilled about the idea (he remembers me BEGGING him to paint our room a very particular shade of yellow not too long ago). But he’s humoring me sweetly and I love him for that. Baby girl and I will be spending lots of time in our bedroom when she arrives and I want it to be a peaceful, beautiful, serene retreat where I can relax happily too- no yellow in sight! Because do you freaking know how much time is spent nursing a newborn in their first months of life?! So. Much. Time. Nursing.
Anyway! These are my plans. Hoping I can pull something together by November but I’ll give us until Christmas to add finishing touches 😉 Can a prego mama with two toddlers and a dog running around paint a bedroom? We shall see.

Above are my picks from IKEA. Light and airy feeling with maybe a splash of color in the rug- not sure yet. We have very plush gray carpet already but layers might be nice. I have also dreamed of wall sconces in my bedroom since I was a kid. When you lie awake at night with projects on the brain, a light within arms reach is a dream! Plus when there’s a little nursling around those lights will be even more handy! Simple bedding in neutral colors with one of my own quilts thrown on top. Lots of different textures and a super cozy feel. I tweaked the color on the mirror frame – dark brown didn’t fit.
Again, a fairly standard dresser from IKEA. I’d ideally design a wall system to add closet space to our room, but that’s not in the budget and probably not worth the money for us right now anyway. I’ll also be overjoyed to toss my three dressers I’ve had since college. They’ve made 5 moves total and are in sorry shape. The bottoms are all falling out, the tops are pulling off and the wood is splintered and broken in so many places. The drawer slides are broken. I want Brandon to smash them with a sledge hammer at the curb. (Seriously, I do.) The best part about this dresser is I think it would still leave room for the one thing I want most in the world (kidding kind of)…
A nursery chair. Glider. Rocker. Whatever you want to call them- they are a little piece of nursing comfort heaven. There are few things worse than being uncomfortable while you nurse. I’d love a little corner of my life to be comfy as can be- right in my own little room retreat! While the plush glider is maybe the most comfortable, I love the convertible element of the rockers. They come with legs so when you no longer need them to rock you can swap in wood legs and turn the chair into a regular arm chair. This is perhaps the most unrealistic item on my wish list (price tag has a few too many numbers!)- but it could happen! 😉 1. is Crate and Barrel 2. is Land of Nod 3. is Pottery Barn Kids.
The finishing touch for our room would be statement art above our headboard. I’m not sure where I want to go with this.
A triptych of fun prints of Pittsburgh would be cool and graphic. I like how these particular prints play off of each other. And this might be the most “acceptable” option for Brandon (haven’t asked yet!).
Find these prints here, here and here.
But I am also obsessing over the idea of one giant, crazily bold photograph hung as a statement piece in some kind of minimalist way. These photographs are my brother Eric’s and I absolutely adore them all.
A single print of those buffalos would be stellar in my opinion.
But my absolute number 1 choice (if it was only my opinion that mattered) would be…
This giant cow print. I don’t know why I’m obsessed with cow photography but I really am. If you saw my etsy loves… I need to create a cow treasury! Ha!
This one is equally stunning. The red is definitely bold.
And this one too, if we wanted to go with something a bit more subtle.
I’m hoping to just have an tiny antique crib in our room (maybe painted mint green or teal) as well and that’s pretty much it for the space. Simple, elegant, fun. I’ll keep you posted if progress ever starts. Cross your fingers for me! This would be a beautiful room!
