If you do nothing else crafty this fall, make this play dough. It was so super easy to make (took maybe 4 minutes total) and the girls absolutely love it! The spices and extracts smell heavenly… just like pumpkin pie or your favorite seasonal latte! I pulled some of my “real” baking stuff for the kids to play with- wood rolling pin, candles, silicon cupcake molds, cookie cutters… Definitely a big hit!
Pumpkin Spice Latte Play Dough
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp cream of tartar
- 3 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. maple syrup extract
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 5-10 drops red and 5-10 drops yellow food coloring
- Mix all dry ingredients in a pot. Mix all wet ingredients in a measuring cup and stir. Then add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir so all ingredients are incorporated in the pot.
- Place the pot over medium heat on the stove and cook for 2-4 minutes or until mixture is stiff.
- Turn out onto the counter and knead a little bit (carefully- it’s pretty warm!) until you can form a smooth ball. That’s it! So easy. If your mixture seems too sticky, add a bit of flour as you knead. If it seems too dry add a touch more maple syrup extract or oil and knead again. Mine didn’t need anything extra and was perfect right out of the pot.
I think I’m going to offer to send in some giant batches of this for each of the girls classrooms. Mmmm it really does smell amazing.
Have fun playing!
