Pumpkin Spice Latte Play Dough

September 26, 2015

If you do nothing else crafty this fall, make this play dough. It was so super easy to make (took maybe 4 minutes total) and the girls absolutely love it!  The spices and extracts smell heavenly… just like pumpkin pie or your favorite seasonal latte! I pulled some of my “real” baking stuff for the kids to play with- wood rolling pin, candles, silicon cupcake molds, cookie cutters…  Definitely a big hit!

Pumpkin Spice Latte Play Dough

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp cream of tartar
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 5-10 drops red and 5-10 drops yellow food coloring
  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a pot. Mix all wet ingredients in a measuring cup and stir. Then add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir so all ingredients are incorporated in the pot.
  2. Place the pot over medium heat on the stove and cook for 2-4 minutes or until mixture is stiff.
  3. Turn out onto the counter and knead a little bit (carefully- it’s pretty warm!) until you can form a smooth ball. That’s it! So easy. If your mixture seems too sticky, add a bit of flour as you knead. If it seems too dry add a touch more maple syrup extract or oil and knead again. Mine didn’t need anything extra and was perfect right out of the pot.

I think I’m going to offer to send in some giant batches of this for each of the girls classrooms.  Mmmm it really does smell amazing.

Have fun playing!
