Can you believe we are in the middle of cold and flu and sick and germ season already? I love the fall and all the fun things that happen this time of year, but back to school and hectic schedules, and having so much going usually causes all the sickies to flood our house. No one likes spending their precious time racing around to doctor’s appointments, especially us Mama’s of little ones who have to drag the whole crew to these sick visits and risk even more sickness. Figuring out how to squeeze in health care visits are already hard enough to manage!
I am so excited to share with you a new solution from UPMC! Presenting – the UPMC #AnywhereCare app. Yes, it’s true – health care is becoming as easy as opening up an app on your phone and scheduling video appointments with leading health care providers right from the comfort of your own home or office, or grandparents house, or coffee shop – literally ANYWHERE!
UPMC Anywhere Care is a real-time video consultation with a UPMC doctor via a video capable mobile phone or tablet via an app download, or via a desktop webcam. UPMC Anywhere Care is available by downloading an app to a video-capable mobile phone/tablet or accessing via a desktop webcam. UPMC Anywhere Care is free app is free and it’s free to sign up for an account. Visits start at $49, but for those with UPMC Health Plan, the cost is similar to the cost of a PCP co-pay.
Anywhere Care is offered to anyone in the state of PA, and they will be able to see a UPMC doctor. If they are outside of PA, they can still use the service, but they will only be able to see doctors staffed from American Well (Online Care Group). Anywhere Care is an alternative to urgent care, retail clinics and ED visits for non-emergent conditions.
Can you imagine not needing to leave home to get medical questions and concerns addressed like anything listed above?! The thought of that alone literally makes me grin. Because of the convenience and ease of use of the app, multiple caregivers can be involved in appointments even if they are not physically together. Perfect for busy parents, grandparents, babysitters, business professionals, millennials and college students. Plus, the added allure of tech savvy healthcare may be a little bit more enticing to those groups of people that sometimes don’t like going to the doctor at all (cough -my husband- cough). Shhh, don’t tell him I said that!
You might be wondering when this service would be most helpful and convenient, or wondering how it might be helpful for your family. Here are just a few examples of when the #anywherecare app would be perfect.
● Upper respiratory infection
● Urinary tract infection
● Deciding if a cut needs stitches or not
